HFW: Day 6 Date Night *a week later*

Salaams and Saluations,

Sorry for the delay but here I go...

Date night....Well since I am no longer married this would be for a sit down. I like to keep things simple but want my personality to come through. I'm really in to accessories now so I included a heart necklace and multi colored bangles from The Souq. The hijab is from LaDecence, I really like it because it incorporates so many colors.

This overgarment is another one from Tawanda Mackey over at Overgarments (dot)com. This garment is A lined and has elastic sleeves. I can wear it year round and that's what I love about it.

What do you wear out with your zawj? What would you wear on a sit down or chaperoned event? Check out the ladies from HFW here.

Day 1 -- Leaders in Hijab: what leadership roles do you have or want to try? (President, teacher, mother, Volunteer Leader, CEO etc.).
Day 2 -- Hobby/Recreation: What do you do when you have free time? (hike, sail, write, paint, etc.)
Day 3 -- Break the Rules: A stylish hijabi can look good in anything, even when she's breaking the rules! Pick a fashion/style rule you always follow, and show us how you'd break it in style! (Any style rule may be broken, except the Islamic criteria for hijab).
Day 4 -- Vacation/Destination: Where would you go, if you could go anywhere in the world? What outfits would you wear?
Day 5 -- Eid & Formal: It's Friday! Dress up! What did you wear for Eid? What do you wear to formal events/parties?
Day 6 -- Date Night: Yesterday you dressed up for you, today dress up for your man! What do you wear when going out with your (future) husband?
Day 7 -- Out with Friends: Finish off the week by hanging out with friends! Where do you usually go? What do you usually do?

HFW: Day 5 Eid

Today we showcase EID. Both EIDs for me were really great. Lots of family time and seeing people you don't normally see on a day to day basis. I even got henna for the 2nd EID.

This abaya was made buy Tawanda Mackey from fabric I picked up in Philly over the summer. It is a 3/4 length and I wear it with a cardigan. The Hijab is a pink drape scarf from Pearl Daisy. The headband was from Forever 21.

I put in a pop of color with the necklace.

HFW: Day 2 Recreation

Salaam And Salutations!

Day 2 of HFW...And I had to think about what I consider recreation. Well my girls love to swim. As Muslimahs we all have modest swimwear, so I picked swimming. So this is what I wear on my WAY to the pool. My LiaWear Action cover up. I love it. It matches my swimsuit from Spashgear USA and is so comfy.

Pearl Daisy haul (most recent)

Salaams and Salutations Ladies

So I have a Pearl Daisy obsession. At first when I FIRST saw the hoojab video..I was like, "I'm NOT getting into the hype'...well that went out the window when I purchased my 1st hoojab.

Pearl Daisy
is run buy Sister Amena, she love of hijab into a J.O.B. (not made at her) On her YouTube channel, Amenakin, she does hijab tutorials, make up tutorials, drops ilm, and baby product reviews. Check it out.
Most recent haul
Drape hijabs: pink drape (fushia), coco bean drape and greycious drape

Thin scarves: Pansies in the Sky (blue), Rose Fluer (peach), Victorian Spring(brown), Floaty Flowers(cream)

Crinkle scarf: Sprinkles Hyacinth

Please check her channel for tutorials on these styles and others. Note that Pearl Daisy is a UK store and the British pound is KILLING the US dollar. Go in and share the shipping with a friend or wait for promo codes and the like.
Me in some of my Pearl Daisy collection:

Dark as night (black) hoojab with an accessory

Evening Mela hijab

Da Vince thin scarf

Cherry Blossom Hoojab

PD tip: Hand wash these hijabs. Some are very delicate and can snag easily. Crinkle Scarves can be stored in a twist so that they STAY that way. Or they can be ironed out for a new look.
Hope you enjoyed that.

Hijabi Project 2011

Salaams Ladies,
OK I soooo forgot about this. Alhumdulillah I was reminded buy a TRUE friend from her iftar invitation.

So this is how the Hijabi Project works. We here in our area are collecting hijabs for less fortunate sisters and new shahadah's for EID. You can either #1: Start the same program in your area or #2 contribute to the collection here in the DC/MD area.

Please provide new and or clean unused/under used hijabs. Sister if you haven't worn it in a YEAR...it needs to go. This is the time to be a blessing to someone else...especially during the month of Ramadan.

You can or a group of you can donate hijabs, $$ to purchase hijabs or BOTH. Please email me at ummamirah(at)beautifulummah(dot)com for pick up locations in DC and or Maryland. Last year my friend iftar garnered 50 gently used hijabs for new shahadas and sister's at Muslimat Al Nisaa in Baltimore. We will be collecting till the LAST weekend of Ramadan so that we can get the items together for the EID...iA.

May Allah(swt) continue to bless you during this blessed month.

Hijab N Swag

Salaams and Saluations Ladies,
Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim subscribers. We pray that you are enjoying the Mercy of your LORD during the 1st 1/3rd of the month of Ramadan.

Soooooo hijabis think about style and fashion year round. From 'what to wear to the masjid for tarawirh?'; to 'What am I wearing for the Eid?'; to 'What am I wearing to my non muslim family member's wedding in two weeks?' (ok that's just ME). So there are staples that ALL hijabs MUST have.

Shout out to Hijabis Got SWAG vlogger Sobia for doing a video on hijabi 'swagger' essentials. I think the did a bang up job (Londonese) with these essentials. Visit her blog Reveiling Yourself or Hijabis got Swag on FB.

So what's in your 'swag bag'? Maybe I should do a SWAG post?? hmmm

Beauty on the Outside: LiaWear Interview

Salaams and Salutations Beautifuls,

Did you all follow Love HFW this year? Well they included sports wear this year. I WAS SOOOOO excited. Did I participate??...sadly no..but I'm thinking about doing so the next one this fall.

Back to the fashions during Hijabi Fashion Week there was only TWO sister that profiled swimwear as workout wear and it WASN'T LiaWear (sad inside). Check out *bluewendy* and *Kakikusukaberialan*. Of course there were lots of attempts to piece together workout wear. Most did a great job but its better to have something made for you that fits the activity you want to do, whether its swimming or zumba or yoga. Well we're so happy to have LiaWear!!!

Beautiful Ummah: What is the philosophy behind LiaWear?

LiaWear: GET ACTIVE. KEEP MODEST. LiaWear allows you to get in motion and take care of the body you have been blessed with. I want for modest women to experience life, not just sit on the sidelines. Being fit adds quality to your life and that is what I want for my sisters. Women who are already active have pieced together outfits. Women who are not, stay inactive. LiaWear offers sportswear and swimsuits as a solution for the woman who values modesty.

BU: Have you always had an eye for fashion?

LW: I have always had an eye and love for detail and quality. My strength is in garment construction, I love a well made garment and do my best to offer the same. When I was younger, my mother took me to different Muslim Fashion shows and I just loved the color, excitement and beauty of the designs.

BU: What types of products to you provide for your line?

LW: Currently, I offer modest swimsuits, coverups, jogging suits, long sleeve tunic tees, sport hijabs, yoga wear, and workout wear. Each design is custom made to the size and shape of the customer. I love collaborating with customers because the synergy usually produces a new design or a unique idea. This is how I now offer a nursing swimsuit and a water park swimsuit. I have been asked to design a horse riding outfit, too! Answering the needs of the modest woman is my service to community.

BU: What drives you to bring modest affordable fashions to American sisters?

LW: The fact that American sisters don't have everything they need in terms of clothing choices. I have traveled to Syria, Dubai and Yemen and there are choices available particularly in Dubai. If an American sister registered for an exercise class and needs to buy a long sleeve T-shirt that covers her, she should be able to so. The same if she needs a modest business suit for work, or a fancy dress for a party. One day I would like to offer all these clothing categories for my Muslim sister so that she can be free to express herself in every facet of her life without compromising her deen. Wouldn't it be nice to have the right modest outfit for any occasion already in your closet?

BU: What is your definition of beauty?

LW: Symmetry. I love when color, design detail, shape and size are all balanced.

Jazkallah Kheir Sister Latifa for participating. Check out Sister Latifah and LiaWear on FB here. Or email her for more info at liawear (at) gmail (dot)com. Size is NO problem. I actually have one cover up that I love. Soon to purchase swim suits for my kids. LiaWear also has LiaWear Prayer...also on facebook. Prayer garments for adults and kids.

Beautiful Ummah Trunk Show update....

Asalaamu Alaikum LADIES!!
Long time no TYPE...

All is well..life is just BUSY. Alhumdulillah for live, and Alhumdulillah for its busy-ness!

So I've done about 3 hijab tutorials in the past couple of month. Its been SOOO fun showing sister's different ways to wear hijab. Everyday, fancy, and with a little somethin' somethin' you know.

Below are a couple of the styles hijabs that BUTS carries.

I have two more hijab workshops before EID...staying busy.

The Hijab Threat

Salaams and Salutations Ladies,
I've been busy..too busy to blog. But know that I'm in the process of taking pics of garments I've already purchased. Waiting for new ones to come in the mail. I am also buying for the Beautiful Ummah Trunk Show. Lot of nice hijabs from the US and Malaysia will be coming in soon (excited!!)

While I was enjoying YouTube hijab tutorials and skimming over hijab blogs I came across this video on Hijab Style. The post there was about Rabia Z's documentary about the Hijab Threat. Hijab Threat?? (looks around like: who me?)

Evidentally people/the world is afraid of HIJAB? A 45 inch piece of cloth is scaring millions..hmm, that's a pretty powerful piece of cloth!! I mean there is the hijab ban in France and in Turkey. Talk of hijab bans in other European countries. I never KNEW cloth could be so...intimidating.

After seeing this video I understand the reason why there are SOOO many hijab/Muslim fashion bloggers and YouTube Muslimah out there. We NEED to be here to combat the crap others are throwing around about hijab/Muslims/Islam. UmmAminahHonest and I are working with Modern Mary on a collaboration event as we speak! Basically helping Muslimah's with the complete style: modest fashion, hijab and make up/skin car (for those who wear no make up).

So I can't WAIT to see Rabia Z's documentary. I'm sure I'll laugh, I'll cry and I'll shout a TAKBIR! or two.

Fit to a T...

Salaams and Saluations,

This is a new series I'm starting because I realized that I don't buy much clothes 'off the rack'. Do to size that does not conform to US numbers I tend to have clothes made to fit. So I have various shirts, skirts, abayas and overgarments that are made to fit my body.

Over the next couple of weeks I will be showcasing these made items along with the designers that made them.

Stick around.

Vela Scarves

Salaams and Salutations,
LONG time no post. Busy..that's the ONLY thing that can describe it.

Here is my VELA scarf post. I've been eyeing *wink, wink* VELA for a while. They are SOOO pretty to look at. Their hijabs come in various price points. Since these are my VELA scarves I picked the inexpensive ones. Now inexpensive does NOT mean low quality.

So I received my 3 VELA scarves very quickly after purchasing online.

Can I say they ARE lovely.

I plan on wearing one to an event this weekend..

Cat's Meow
This one is in honor of my Sorors Aliya K and Ameenah M-D...since they love animal print..lol.
Vintage Lavender
Lavender...well I'm a Gamma so...I couldn't resist. Pretty
A la mode
This hijab is lovely!! I mean its silky and really pretty.

VELA scarves has a tutorial for their hijabs. The hijab is simple and easy to follow. Try it..you might just like it.
