What's on your face.

Salaams and Salutations Ladies,

I pray you all are busy planning out your outfits and hijabs for the '30hijabzN30dayz' challenge. I am going this weekend to pick out the make up to go with the donated prizes.

I wanted to focus today on skincare. Fashion and modesty are good points but we must remember to take care of our skin. Its what everyone sees 1st, hijabi or not. Below is a video from Silver Lip Beauty. She has a blog and a YouTube channel.

I am currently using the following products:
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream
Embryolisse Lait-Cream Concentrate

I also picked up Philosophy face wash and Dermalogica .

What do you use on your face?

Get ready contest in the making

Salaams and Saluations,

So...upon looking into my closet and my hijab hangers I wondered if I could wear '30 hijabs in 30 days'. I mean 30 different hijabs, no repeats, for 30 days. I believe I can...but can YOU? Well Beautiful Ummah will be having a challenge in March of 2012. We are still working out the details and gathering up prizes. There will be a local prize (DC Metro area) and a US & Canada prize. Sorry no other international prizes at this time.

So take a gander at your 'stash' ..and see if you want to participate.

More info to come.

Hijab N Swag

Salaams and Saluations Ladies,
Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim subscribers. We pray that you are enjoying the Mercy of your LORD during the 1st 1/3rd of the month of Ramadan.

Soooooo hijabis think about style and fashion year round. From 'what to wear to the masjid for tarawirh?'; to 'What am I wearing for the Eid?'; to 'What am I wearing to my non muslim family member's wedding in two weeks?' (ok that's just ME). So there are staples that ALL hijabs MUST have.

Shout out to Hijabis Got SWAG vlogger Sobia for doing a video on hijabi 'swagger' essentials. I think the did a bang up job (Londonese) with these essentials. Visit her blog Reveiling Yourself or Hijabis got Swag on FB.

So what's in your 'swag bag'? Maybe I should do a SWAG post?? hmmm

The Hijab Threat

Salaams and Salutations Ladies,
I've been busy..too busy to blog. But know that I'm in the process of taking pics of garments I've already purchased. Waiting for new ones to come in the mail. I am also buying for the Beautiful Ummah Trunk Show. Lot of nice hijabs from the US and Malaysia will be coming in soon (excited!!)

While I was enjoying YouTube hijab tutorials and skimming over hijab blogs I came across this video on Hijab Style. The post there was about Rabia Z's documentary about the Hijab Threat. Hijab Threat?? (looks around like: who me?)

Evidentally people/the world is afraid of HIJAB? A 45 inch piece of cloth is scaring millions..hmm, that's a pretty powerful piece of cloth!! I mean there is the hijab ban in France and in Turkey. Talk of hijab bans in other European countries. I never KNEW cloth could be so...intimidating.

After seeing this video I understand the reason why there are SOOO many hijab/Muslim fashion bloggers and YouTube Muslimah out there. We NEED to be here to combat the crap others are throwing around about hijab/Muslims/Islam. UmmAminahHonest and I are working with Modern Mary on a collaboration event as we speak! Basically helping Muslimah's with the complete style: modest fashion, hijab and make up/skin car (for those who wear no make up).

So I can't WAIT to see Rabia Z's documentary. I'm sure I'll laugh, I'll cry and I'll shout a TAKBIR! or two.

The Hijabi Project: Ramadan 2009

Salaams and Salutations Beautifuls,

Hijabi Apprentice posted a YouTube from a fellow hijabi that doing a hijab give away for ramadan. When I saw it I was like , 'Masha~allah that is great!!'. I also thought that since there have been an influx of new sister's in MY area I wanted them to benefit from the idea as well. So came along the Hijabi Project.

In the D/M/V I will be providing 10 free hijabs to new muslimahs, tween and teens this ramadan. I'm asking that they be in THIS area because I'm not mailing them, sorry. I'm looking for sister's who would like to donate hijabs, pins, time, colored tissue paper for wrapping and ramadan cards. I'm also looking for business that want to donate or give away 10% discounts on merchandise for these new muslimah.

Check out the events page on BEAUTIFUL UMMAH for more info.

Enjoy the Ramadan Project from The Vintage Goth:

**all donations are fisabilillah (for the pleasure of allah(swt)**

And please if you see a need like THIS in your area....share the idea and insha~allah it can be of some benifit to someone during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Beautiful Interview with YouTuber Caramelle47!!!

Salaams Beautiful Ones!!! I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my fave makeup mavens on YouTube, Caramelle47 aka Wafa! She dishes about makeup, Islam and the haraam police ;). I was scanning through YouTube and I saw a hijabi in a stunning (check it out below! swoon) blue hijab/dupatta and I had to know more about our sister in Islam :).

Hijabi Apprentice: Masha Allah, you are 19 and already so skilled in makeup! When did you get started? What were your influences?

Wafa:

I’ve been experimenting with makeup since I was 13 years old. When I was 14, I started wearing eyeliner to school and I am now addicted. I wasn’t very good in the beginning, but Alhamdulillah I’ve picked up quite a few skills from the YouTube makeup community.

HA: Do you ever face (in real life or on YouTube) the "haraam police" or people who feel as a hijabi you should not wear makeup? If so how do you deal with that?

W:

Oh all the time! I get people preaching about Islam and Islamic etiquette for women underneath my videos and I get comments calling me names. I normally just block the users who present hatred and I try not to comment back because most of the negative comments are just spam. I have even made it clear on my homepage that I’m not preaching Islam on my channel, I strictly present my love for makeup and beauty, but many don’t understand that. Just because I wear a hijab doesn’t mean that I don’t have other interests, I’m a Muslim girl who absolutely loves makeup! J

HA: Do you have a muse or an inspiration for your makeup looks?

W:

I love bright colours and funky looks. My inspirations usually come from the clothes that I wear and the mood I’m in for that particular day. Sometimes I hardly wear any makeup!

HA: What is your favourite makeup brand?

W:

I don’t have a favourite makeup brand because I like to use a variety of things. If the colour payoff for the product is very good, I’ll love it! I like to use a variety of high end and drugstore products because it all depends on the quality, price, and type of makeup that I’m buying.

HA: If you only had 5 - 10 minutes to put together a makeup look what would it consist of?

W:

If I had 10 minutes, I would definitely have my liquid or cream black eyeliner, mascara and a lip-gloss. Usually that’s all the time I have for makeup in the morning, so that’s what I wear on a daily basis.

HA: When do you go all out with your makeup looks?

W:

I go all out at weddings and events where there will be lots of pictures taken. You’ve gotta look good for the flash! =D

HA: How has your culture influenced your beauty preferences?

W:

My parents are Pakistani (and I’ve been raised in Canada since I was five years old). The South Asian culture is known for its bold and bright colours during party time. When I wear my cultural clothing, I normally do bright and colourful looks to go along with the fancy outfits.

HA: Okay time for the cliche question LOL! Which 5 items (beauty or otherwise) would you take with you on a desert island?

W:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... This one is hard!

If I had to pick I would choose:

1) Cream Eyeliner

2) A nude lipgloss

3) Blush

4) Trendy hijab

5) CELL PHONE!

HA: What was your last makeup haul?

W:

My last makeup haul would have been about a month ago (before Valentine’s Day). It was a collective haul (I visited the MAC three times that week) and bought lots of things each time.

HA: What is your definition of beauty?

W:

My definition of beauty is someone who can portray themselves through any art form and still shine through. That also includes people who can be themselves, be original and unique at the same time. True beauty to me is not about how a person looks necessarily, but how they carry themselves regardless of the situation. It’s about the person’s inner character, their true definition of who they are and how they combine that with their outside to present their utmost self.

HA: Which aspect of Islam do you find most beautiful?

W:

I find that within Islam, you can always find an answer. There is peace, patience, and good character amongst those who practice Islam. Islam is a beautiful religion when it is properly understood. Islam itself means peace, so for one to live their life with that sole definition, it can alter the way many think and feel about life in general (in a very good way of course).

Thank you Wafa from all of us at Beautiful Ummah!
